It’s been less than two months since launch and CommBank Kaching is taking Australia by storm!

Our revolutionary new mobile payment app has gone off! Thanks to all of you that have taken the time to download it. As of February 13, CommBank Kaching has been downloaded a total of 110,761 times and holds an app store rating of four stars.  It’s the second most popular free finance app in the Australian App Store, after our CommBank app.

Over half of our 10 million customers currently own a smartphone so our customer’s appetite for convenient and innovative apps is high. The momentum this app has gained has been overwhelming, given we have taken a fairly soft approach to marketing it.

While mobile to mobile payments have proved to be the most popular transfer method (85 per cent), what’s been surprising is the popularity of Facebook payments which are growing rapidly. Facebook is second most popular transfer method with customers, accounting for more than 10 per cent of Kaching transfers.

While we knew Facebook would be an important feature to offer our customers, it’s an interesting growth area and indicates a distinct shift towards how Australians are seeking out new ways of making payments.  It certainly broadens the mobile channels available and shows just how important it is to keep technology evolving for customers.

The first release of CommBank Kaching is just the beginning of the journey and we are constantly reviewing how to evolve our technology to deliver the best customer experience.

Three things you might not know about CommBank Kaching:

1. Using your mobile phone contacts is just one of your payment options. You can also pay people using your email and Facebook contacts, BPAY billers and your NetBank address book. Also people who don’t belong to Commonwealth Bank can still receive money paid to them through CommBank Kaching, as long as they have an Australian bank account.

 2. You only need the iCarte case for contactless payments. All other payment types and features of CommBank Kaching work without the iCarte case.

3. Now logging in to get your account balance is even more convenient. CommBank Kaching users can select how they log into their accounts, either through NetBank login password, or they can set a 4-digit pin to login.
